Rose Ocean
Following the visits of pink-haired Charlie to an aquarium where fish aren’t bound by tanks or the need for water but, instead float freely through the halls, the stories collected in Rose Ocean explore the young woman’s philosophical quandaries, disillusionment and loss of innocence. Threaded through the film are voyeuristic moments framing the aquarium’s other inhabitants in their mundane on-goings. The whimsical environment and thought-provoking vignettes collide to produce a wickedly psychedelic and violently aesthetic coming of age tale like no other.
Directed by Clark Lasseter, 1983.
